Message from President John Petersen
Throughout the statewide University of Tennessee, our people are the key to our success. To ensure we attract and retain highly capable employees, we must have a highly successful and innovative human resources team.
For some time, our human resources leadership throughout the University has embraced the goal of an enhanced human resources function. I applaud and fully support this goal, and over the past years, that team already has made progress in elevating the human resources role. I believe we have a strategic opportunity to set our vision even higher with the selection of a dynamic leader as Chief Human Resources Officer.
Since a strong and engaged human resources function is a key component for the university to excel, the Chief Human Resources Officer will be a senior member of UT System leadership and will report to the President.
The Chief Human Resources Officer will work collaboratively with other UT System executives, chancellors and campus human resources leadership on policy issues; with State of Tennessee entities on statewide benefit programs and supplemental retention programs; with training and development staff to ensure continuing education and skills needs are met; with system and campus leadership to ensure succession plans for workforce transitions; and will ensure management of human resources information systems for UT.
I am committed to ensuring that a capable, highly qualified, and visionary leader joins our team as Chief Human Resources Officer. A search committee chaired by Associate Vice President Dr. Mary Jinks and comprised of human resources and other leadership throughout the statewide University has begun the process of identifying candidates. I look forward to bringing you news of their progress.
